Every month, on the 29th, families and friends gather for dinner and eat gnocchi.

Restaurants serve gnocchi specials.

Some places change the menu entirely to gnocchi, just for a day.

This tradition dates back to the mid-19th century.

Italians immigrants began arriving to Argentina around 1860's.

Their paychecks usually arrived on the 1st of every month.

So, by the 29th... funds were low!

They decided to make gnocchi, as a filling meal when times are tough.

Today the tradition lives on with a slightly different meaning:

every 29th is a gnocchi dinner for luck, for prosperity and for charity.
